Be the Employee

As an employee your efforts would have translated to earning between 20% and 50% of your billings and the requirement to operate within a rigid framework. Year 1 salary/OTE as a % of revenue generated = c35%

Generally risk averse and so you sacrifice upwards of 50% of your business equity (most expect 80% equity for earlier stage businesses). Moreover they are less likely to back you unless you agree to work under the premise of ‘sweat equity’ meaning you are limited to the amount of salary you can draw down from the revenue you generate;- typically capped at no more than 20%.
